Hey Readers,

Have you ever wondered what is this Jargon word ‘Internet‘ ? I hope you did 🤞

Let me just explain you what Internet is. You must have used WhatsApp for chatting with your friends, families or relatives. How does this happen ? We use youtube or instagram on a daily basis and we share reels with our loved ones daily. How all this is working ? Who is taking the reel from my device and putting it into other’s device. This is all happening with the help of Internet.

Internet is nothing but a group of interconnected networks.

Network ? 🤔 Network is also a group of devices (computers/mobiles/tablets) which are connected with each other in order to communicate. We use internet daily for the following purposes :

  1. Browsing the social media (instagram, twitter, youtube, etc.)

  2. Paying bills

  3. Booking tickets

  4. Education

  5. Netflix and chill

  6. Ecommerce

and the list goes on….

A brief history of Internet ⏳

The internet's roots lie in the 1960s with the US Department of Defense's ARPANET, designed to share information among researchers even if parts of the network were destroyed. Key developments include:

  • Packet Switching: Breaking data into smaller packets for more efficient and reliable transmission.

  • TCP/IP: A set of rules allowing different networks to communicate, forming the foundation of the modern internet.

  • World Wide Web (WWW): Developed in the late 1980s, it provided a user-friendly way to access information through hyperlinks.

The internet has since revolutionized communication, commerce, and countless other aspects of daily life, becoming an indispensable part of the global society.

How does the Internet works ? 🤔

The internet works by using a set of protocols which allows devices to communicate with each other. Protocols are nothing but a set of rules of how the data will be transmitted between two devices connected over a network.

Challenges of Internet 🦹‍♂️

  1. The internet is vulnerable to cyberattacks which can steal important information.

  2. The internet collects our personal information.

  3. The internet can spread misinformation.

World Wide Web 🕸️

World Wide Web commonly known as WWW, is just a collection of webpages that are accessible over the internet. It uses hyperlinks and URLs to connect documents and other resources.

Components -

  • Hypertext : A method for cross referencing information.

  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol : A standard protocol(set of rules) that tells how data is transmitted between client and server.

  • Uniform Resource Locator(URL) : A unique address that points to a specific webpage.

  • HTML(Hypertext Markup Language) : Most common format for publishing webpages.
